The Conflict of the Engineering and the Legal Mindset in the Artificial Intelligence Act
This course critiques the AI Act’s product compliance rules for failing to protect human rights. It shows that conformity assessments, designed for physical products, cannot capture rights like non-discrimination, freedom of speech, or principles such as the rule of law, which emerge case by case. Applying engineering-style logic to these nuanced rights, it argues, creates confusion and practical challenges.
