A Teleological Interpretation of the Definition of DeepFakes in the EU Artificial Intelligence Act
This course explores the EU Artificial Intelligence Act’s groundbreaking approach to regulating deepfakes. Focusing on the interpretation of the term “existing” within the Act’s definition, it critically examines how narrow readings could limit the law’s effectiveness. The course proposes a teleological, purpose-driven interpretation to ensure broader protection — extending safeguards even to synthetic media that do not depict real people or events.
